How to depot any eyeshadow

Love a shade that isn't sold as an individual pan? Depotting is easy — and opens up hundreds more brands for your bamboo palette.

WARM THE PAN

Place the eyeshadow palette face-down on a flat iron or hair straightener on low heat for 30–60 seconds. This softens the glue holding the pan in place.

POP IT OUT

Use a thin spatula, knife, or depotting tool to gently pry the pan from the plastic casing. It should come out cleanly — no crumbling.

CLEAN THE BACK

Wipe any residue from the back of the pan with a cotton pad and a little isopropyl alcohol. Let it dry completely before placing in your palette.

PLACE IN YOUR PALETTE

If the pan is metal (tin), it will stick to the magnetic base directly. If it's aluminium, add a small metal sticker to the back first — available cheaply on Amazon.
